Over a couple of trips to Bourke in north-west NSW late in 2013 I got interested in the town and its socio-economic circumstances. I hadn’t been there for 12 years and the place felt significantly different – despite a Sydney Morning Herald report from earlier in 2013 declaring it more dangerous than any country in the world.
I spoke with a lot of people, did a deal of research and wrote a piece: “We are not just passing through”.
